Mock Draft 3.04

2008 Draft, Mock Drafts 1 Comment »

This mock draft update is simply to keep the mock draft up to date with the current draft order, released yesterday. All I did with this update is add logos to the pick, and modify a few picks due to the changes in draft order. To view the current draft order with strength of schedule calculations, please refer to NFL.com Draft Order page.

1. Miami Dolphins — Glenn Dorsey, Louisiana State (DT)

Now with Parcells in the front office, it could very well mean building from the defensive side of the ball first. Plus with Ronnie Brown and Jesse Chatman already in the backfield, it makes it a lot easier to stay away from taking McFadden. John Beck is deserving of another year at starting quarterback considering the poor supporting cast that surrounded him.

2. St. Louis Rams — Jake Long, Michigan (OT)

Offensively the Rams struggled with Orlando Pace out. Pace says he won’t retire, but you have to wonder how much he has left in the tank at 32-years old. The Rams will take their time with bringing Long to the starting tackle spot, but that doesn’t mean they’ll miss out on a great offensive tackle like Long. In addition, former first-round pick Alex Barron has been penalized heavily since entering the league.

*3. Atlanta Falcons — Andre’ Woodson, Kentucky (QB)

The lack of interceptions that Andre’ Woodson threw this year, paired with the 18 that Matt Ryan threw really made this easier for me to predict. Seeing a lot of young quarterbacks struggle because of interceptions (Carson Palmer, Eli Manning, Vince Young) could make it seem like Woodson would be the better pick here over Ryan. Not to mention that Woodson is a born leader, which is what the Falcons will be looking for in their situation.

*4. Oakland Raiders — Darren McFadden, Arkansas (RB)

Justin Fargas had an outstanding year, but he’s a free agent this season, add that Dominic Rhodes is a free agent after the 2008 season, and LaMont Jordan’s time in Oakland seems limited. A combination of McFadden and JaMarcus Russell in Oakland’s backfield could be the key to success in their future. Definitely would expect this to be Oakland’s pick regardless of what happens during the coin flip tiebreaker.

*5. Kansas City Chiefs — Chris Long, Virginia (DE)

Jared Allen is a free agent after this season, and the Chiefs’ willingness to keep him cannot be equestioned when making the mock draft. If they don’t want to shell out big money to pay Jared Allen, then Long could very well be the pick here. This could change to being a quarterback if Allen is re-signed. Scouting Report — Andre’ Woodson

Entering the NFL combine, I fully expect that Andre’ Woodson will remain a top ten pick in the eyes of NFL teams. Here’s a scouting report on the 6-5 quarterback from Kentucky. Read the rest of this entry »

Scouting Report — Matt Ryan

Scouting Reports No Comments »

After an impressive bowl performance against Michigan State, pretty much carrying Boston College to a victory, I’ve decided to drawl up a Matt Ryan scouting report. It remains to be seen whether the performance is enough for Ryan to jump into the third spot in the mock draft, but I like Brohm going to the Ravens and, for now, I like Woodson going to the Falcons. 4. New York Jets - Darren McFadden, Arkansas (RB)

The answer to the Jets offensive problems are solved. With McFadden on board, the Jets will hope that this means Kellen Clemens will flourish, with a lot of the pressure off his shoulders.

5. Baltimore Ravens - Brian Brohm, Louisville (QB)

Nobody needs points more than the Ravens do, and Brian Brohm is the right man to put at quarterback when that is considered. Matt Ryan might be the better prospect, but Brohm can light up the scoreboard, and that’s something the Ravens love to hear. Read the rest of this entry »

Mock Draft 3.03 to Be Released on Wednesday

Uncategorized No Comments »

The forth mock draft this year, and our latest mock draft of the season, will be released on Wednesday, December 26th with an updated draft order and explanations for all picks.

In addition, there have been some problems reported using Internet Explorer with the previous layout we’ve had, so I’ve taken the website back to the original blog layout. My plan is to continue to use the layout, unless of course another problem arises.

Take note to the bookmark service that we will also be providing, for all of our blog posts, at the bottom of each post. This button allows you to share the blog post through various social networking websites including Del.icio.us, Facebook, Newsvine, Digg, and Google Bookmarks. I encourage users to use this feature.

Lastly, expect some player scouting reports to be put out this week.

Below is the current NFL draft order. The draft order is determined by winning percentage first, and then tiebreakers are broken by the strength of schedule (opponents win percentage). Doing worse against poorer teams would net you a higher pick. Credit goes to RealtimeRPI.com for the strength of schedule information.

Ranking the Prospects

Rankings 2 Comments »

Last Updated: December 13, 2007

1. Darren McFadden, Arkansas (RB)

Heisman runner-up that should be the top pick regardless of who is picking. He should remind a lot of teams of Adrian Peterson, something that will definitely improve his stock.

2. Glenn Dorsey, LSU (DT)

Top defensive line prospect since Mario Williams. He’s disruptive at the defensive tackle spot as he has a shot to challenge McFadden for the Dolphins pick if they should pick at number one.

3. Chris Long, Virginia (DE)

Another great defensive end prospect. Son of former NFL-player Howie Long. He has excellent size for the position and should be a great addition to any team in need of a defensive linemen.

4. Jake Long, Michigan (OT)

He’s been regarded as the top offensive line prospect since the start of the NCAA season and did nothing to disprove that. Played in a zone blocking system in Michigan, which should be appealing to teams like the Panthers, Texans, or Broncos.

5. Matt Ryan, Boston College (QB)

Ryan has good physical attributes for the quarterback position and he was a big reason for Boston College’s success this past year. Throws a nice ball with good form. Read the rest of this entry »
