College football is upon us here in late August. There are a lot of reasons why I like the college game more than the professional game, which I’ll save for a different post, but one of them has to be the Heisman Trophy. This award is so much different from the MVP award in the NFL, or in any major sport, that it really amuses me. To think that a player can win this award, and then go on not to start a single year in the NFL is mind boggling. The Raiders offense looked great against the Rams last night with Daunte Culpepper starting. Imagine how impressive they would have been with Culpepper throwing the ball to Calvin Johnson. Or even Adrian Peterson lined up behind Culpepper in the backfield. Both then-possible situations would mean that the players would have probably been in camp by now and playing in the pre-season. The following power rankings have been updated to accommodate the new Larry Johnson contract as well as the decision to release Jeremiah Trotter by the Philadelphia Eagles. Both had effects on where their team is ranked. NCAA Power Rankings should also be on their way…

The wait is finally over for Chiefs fans:
“Larry Johnson ended his 25-day holdout Tuesday morning by finalizing a five-year extension that will keep him with the Chiefs through 2012.
Johnson’s contract is worth $45 million, with $19 million guaranteed. Of the guaranteed money, $12 million is the signing bonus and $7 million is guaranteed salary.”
The contract is well deserved, as it would just be unfair to see L.J. get all those carries without him being compensated for them in the past 2 seasons. Naturally this is going to improve his fantasy value, and everybody that got him in the late first round because of the holdout situation got a down right steal. Read the rest of this entry »
According to Comcast SportsNet in Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Eagles have released linebacker Jeremiah “Axman” Trotter. This comes as a huge surprise considering that newly acquired Takeo Spikes and Trotter seemed to have developed a nice chemistry.
