Less than 24 Hours; Tweeting the Draft

2010 Draft, Miscellaneous No Comments »

That’s right, we’re less than 24 hours away from the St. Louis Rams turning in their draft card to kick off the 2010 NFL draft. We’ve made some mock drafts. In fact, we’ve done three in the past two days (our final mock draft for 2010 was just posted). Aside from the top four picks being Bradford, Suh, McCoy, and Okung, respectively, little in this draft is certain. There’s bound to be some surprises, there always are, but unlike in years past I’m going to be using Twitter throughout the draft to let the draft community know how we feel about particular moves. If you haven’t already, please follow us over at twitter @sat2sun.

I also plan on doing a second round mock draft at the conclusion of the first round tomorrow night. Hopefully I could have that posted before the second day kicks off on Friday night. I’ll definitely be posting updates about that as the time nears. Twitter: @sat2sun, even if you don’t use Twitter be sure to bookmark that page because I’ll be updating it frequently.

Well we have come a long way. This marks our 100th post to the website since its conversion to a professional blog in August of 2007. I honestly had no idea what was the come of this website when it was started in early 2006, by two kids then barely in high school. True story. A story that I never formally revealed to the S2S audience.

Saturdays2Sundays was a pretty simple concept. We needed a creative name for a website that would do its best to predict the inexact science that is the N.F.L. draft. Since college football players play primarily on Saturdays, and professional football players mostly on Sundays, the name Saturdays2Sundays seemed original and catchy. We scrummed up some money, bought a domain name on Yahoo!, hired an aspiring graphic designer, and found free hosting services. This was all after we tested the waters on Freewebs.com.

The bold prediction in 2006 by one of our owners that Jay Cutler would be the best quarterback in the 2006 draft class still resonates in my mind. I have to admit I was skeptical at the time of this bold prediction, but this kind of stuff is what kept the website operating through these years. Our first 2010 mock draft is in the works, as we have decided to do away with the meaningless pre-playoff mock drafts.

That’s all for now. I’m definitely planning on at least another 100 posts, but we’ll see how it goes. Follow us on Twitter (@sat2sun).

Ready For Some Football?

It seems we’ve made it a tradition t0 take a couple month’s hiatus after the draft to clear our minds. Well hopefully the hiatus is over. In just a few weeks, professional teams will be reporting to training camp, and college teams will be opening their seasons. And it’s about time. Baseball, basketball, and hockey are all great (well okay, maybe not hockey), but nothing beats anything affiliated with the National Football League.

There are so many promising storylines in this fresh NFL season that I had to make use of the website somehow before the 2010 NFL draft. Just off the top of my head, we have a Brett Favre conundrum (not that this is different from years past, or maybe the next five), a dieting LenWhale, and a host of players in unhappy situations. Fantasy football has always been one of my loves, so expect some fantasy posts scattered between now and the start of the season.

Oh, and by the way, we’re on twitter. Following me @sat2sun, as I’ll be “tweeting” about a variety of different issues. Hopefully we’ll be getting the twitter account more active, which obviously would mean more traffic sent to the website (which is good).

I’ll close my comeback post by saying expect a 2010 mock draft sometime before the end of the summer. I’m in no particular rush to get one done, but I would like to complete one in the pre-season to use as a reference point come April.

New Comment Policy

Miscellaneous, Site News No Comments »

Just a little heads up for those that might notice something different when trying to comment on a blog post. Today I have implemented a policy which requires visitors to register with the website before writing a comment. The new policy will allow for people to gain notoriety with the site by using the same username each time that person comments. Additionally, I feel the new policy will boost the amount of comments the site receives. I’m also exploring the possibility of running a website fantasy league on Yahoo! Sports, in which the new comment system would make things a bit easier.

Mock Update Coming Soon

2008 Draft, Miscellaneous 1 Comment »

Just a little heads up, we’re in the process of completing our sixth mock draft of the year, one that will definitely include atr least two or three rounds. The mock draft is taking into account the recent NFL Scouting Combine as well as the moves by teams in free agency. All I’m going to say at this point is that the top pick is not Glenn Dorsey as it has been in most of our previous mock drafts. Stay tuned.

2008 Draft, Miscellaneous No Comments »

I’ll be taking a short break from blogging about the current football status (as some of you have probably noticed), and turn my attention to the future, most notably the 2008 draft. My plan, aided by the baseball playoffs, is to take a break from blogging and focus on completing this 2008 mock draft, which I’ll be working on in parts throughout the next week or two. Just wanted to let everyone know that I didn’t completely fall off the map, having not put a post up since October 7th.

I’m also open to anyone that would be interesting in writing for the website as the NFL mid way point approaches. If interested, please send an e-mail with your area of interest (particular NCAA/NFL team), a writing sample, and any other useful tips to saturdays2sundays@gmail.com; I’ll let people know shortly.
